Humble beginnings to…

… LOFTY AMBITIONS!
Impulse Marketing for Charitable Purposes
Founded in the fall of 2019 in Boise, Idaho, T & D Solutions was formed and designed with a simple mission in mind: to use a locally-focused approach to marketing and fundraising to create meaningful relationships between the community and their clients that would have a lasting impact. Through their fundraising efforts at promotional events across the state, the company would create opportunities to give back to local causes that were close to the hearts of the organization and community.

A Culture of Ethics and Entrepreneurship
From the beginning, T & D was committed to standing out in the promotional event-based marketing industry by not only working exclusively for 501(c)(3) public charities and private foundations, but by also structuring their company with transparency and ethics as the foundation of the company’s culture. Avoiding the tendency for F2F marketing companies to shamelessly promote the idea that it’s field representatives would one day be rich, independent business owners, T & D found its focus for employees solely in the advancement of their professional careers and the betterment of oneself through taking on the challenges and sacrifices required to interact with so many people and generate such a large of amount of revenue for their non-profit clients. The company’s lineage in communication studies higher education and corporate training and development found employees of the highest calibers working together diligently to accomplish the company’s goals and develop the sales strategy, training principles, management philosophy and entrepreneurial mindset to either move into a long-term administrative or management position with the company or assume a management role in another industry their hearts were set on. More than a few of their team would move on to open their own companies and begin their own journey of entrepreneurship after being inspired by what they learned at T & D.

Matching the Customer’s Generosity
While spreading awareness and fundraising for charitable causes like the push to implement proactive childhood suicide prevention programs in Idaho elementary and middle schools, and modern drug and violence prevention curriculum for K-12 schools in Idaho and across the U.S., T & D was able to raise on average $1.3 million per year for approx. 4 years consecutively and nearly doubled that in 2021 when they expanded to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They donated over $20,000 in hygiene products, winter clothing, and school supplies to local elementary schools and organizations like Lighthouse Rescue Mission over the years as well. Most proudly for them, the company was able to regularly donate approx. $5,000 each year for 4 years consecutively in brand new toys for terminally ill children at St. Luke’s’ Children’s Hospital in Boise, a tradition that CMTD carries on today. Also, for 2 years consecutively now, T & D and now CMTD have donated the same number of toys to the OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK, in addition to also making significant contributions of hygiene and winter supplies to the City Rescue Mission in OKC respectively.

Culture Leads to Expansion and Business Partnership
The company was outgrowing its office in Boise and it was time for the company to branch out and open a second location in a bigger market to enable it to bring on another flagship non-profit client. Unlike some of his predecessors, the then Assistant Director Hunter Okialda decided when he left the company to start his own marketing company, he was going to have a hard time creating a culture more fulfilling and successful as what he had already helped build in T & D. This lead to Hunter opting to enter into a partnership with T & D to have his new company, C & M Solutions (Communication and Marketing Solutions) contracted to operate the flagship office in Boise while the owner and a team left to open the second T & D Solutions location in Oklahoma City, OK. Hunter went on to create an impressive legacy in Boise as he was only 22 years old when he took on the Idaho office and drove it to surge many times and produce a litany of outstanding marketing professionals, some of which would go on to become the first employees of CMTD Solutions.

Challenges of Fundraising Professionally
The company was certainly not without adversity along the way. A small but loud minority of local advocates who chose to remain largely ignorant of the companies true, consistent positive impact in the community have been quick to accuse the company of representing an untrustworthy foreign presence in the city who has nefarious intentions to take local funds and distribute them to organizations that have the audacity to serve more than one community in the country. Despite the backlash experienced by the company spearheaded by a handful of conspiracy theorists offended by the sensibilities of such a company and unable to imagine a company operating in the non-profit sector as a for-profit being anything other than sinister, T & D Solutions found continued success until the end of 2023 when the company would decide to do something to ensure the future of the company was limitless in its growth potential.

Contracts and Controversy Leads to Need for Independence
T & D was able to get its foothold in the non-profit world with the help of a larger national corporation that brokered professional fundraising contracts with national 501(c)(3) charities in need of representation in various states. That same corporation had vested interests in the company due to contract limitations they imposed to ensure they retained enough control of T & D’s business operations to prevent the company from competing in the same space of distribution and also limited T & D from being able to leverage any other methods to fundraise for their clients like grant writing and corporate sponsorships. Although the company had accepted those limitations until now that would soon change after the distribution corporation came under fire for unsavory business practices that resulted in many of the contracted companies working for them to impose practices that either undermined the securities of their employees or resulted in suffering for both the business owners and employees working under the contracts. With their contract about to expire at the end of 2023, the company would set in motion a plan to remove their dependance from the distributor and allow for them to realize the true potential of the talented team they had assembled and trained to thrive utilizing more blunt but absolutely proven and effective fundraising tools and strategies…

But WAIT!… There’s more…

A Merger Commemorating New Beginnings
While the two companies shared a name and training philosophy, T & D Solutions and C & M Solutions had grown to differ in their values and focuses in regards to marketing for non-profits. T & D largely focused its efforts on diversifying the tools it uses to deliver strategic communication on behalf of their clients, whereas C & M focused on innovating and refining the approach of training and development in regards to promotional event-based marketing and creating a more ethical approach to training people to influence with impulse marketing in live interactions. The desire to be free of the limitations imposed by a controlling corporate influence to compete with bigger marketing entities and create a path for its employees to grow beyond field work at events came to a head at the end of December 2023 when T & D’s contract to fundraise for its then flagship client through another larger agency expired. A relationship that had begun 2 years earlier became the opportunity to spread their wings and take flight over the ocean of independence. On January 1, 2024, both C & M Solutions and T & D Solutions closed their doors permanently and out of their ashes emerged CMTD Solutions; communication, marketing, training and development solutions.
Never Forgetting What Made the Company Great
With the two companies’ forces combined, CMTD got to work developing a new flagship client and restructuring the employee experience to accelerate the newest team members toward their ultimate destination with the company. The company’s foundation and lineage began in the promotional event space and out of that came the core values and competencies that define what it means to be a member of CMTD. Positivity and powerful language prepare you to be successful in overcoming the challenges you face, humility and a willingness to learn ensure you will be able to utilize expert advice, evolve, and adapt to the situations you’ll encounter, and self-motivation with a strong work ethic ensures you will start and follow through to finish the tasks necessary to complete the job. CMTD did not want to lose what attracted the most talented and reliable team members in the past so the company decided to require all new team members to compete a basic training curriculum focused on applying core principles of strategic communication in a generalized way by hosting and managing the promotional events that paved the way for the diverse marketing environment it was to become. By ensuring every member of the team had the same core abilities regardless of where they started with the company, they ensured that only the most humble, dynamic, hard-working, reliable, and consistently performing people were able to settle in and call the company home for the long haul. The fact that to this day every team member has had to rediscover and realize the source of the teams pride and fulfillment in accomplishing goals for their clients, every team member is able to appreciate the destination CMTD arrived at: a dynamic team of marketing enthusiasts who collaborate to achieve the influence to realize the missions of clients that seek to transform the communities they serve for the better.
Moving Beyond the Promotional Event
While promotional events can achieve fundraising results consistently that form the basis for charities to accomplish great things, CMTD’s desire to apply their knowledge and ingenuity outside of the direct marketing space was one of the prime motivators and drives behind their desire for independence. The company already had talented practitioners in the digital marketing, B2B, merchandising, PR, corporate training and development, and design space who were eager to establish their value and their newest client was in need of dramatic results after 10 years of incubation. It made sense to use the development path that was established to produce industry leaders in the event space and adapt it to accommodate the development of employees in the newest divisions of the company. After completing basic training, senior management started to pave paths to leadership and middle management for each division based on the core competencies required to stand out in those fields respectively. CMTD currently has six divisions and paths of marketing development beyond basic training; promotional event management, digital marketing and advertising, corporate relations and B2B, website and graphic design, PR and media production, and corporate training and development. Each division has a path to achieve training, management, and executive positions in each respective discipline by accomplishing equally accessible and transparent objectives available to those applying themselves to developing those skills at the company. Like T & D before it, CMTD has a goal for every employee who completes basic training: either leave the company better than when you arrived, or stay with the company and achieve the pinnacle of your success in leadership here by managing others to greatness or by passing on your skills to the next generation of employees through training and development.
A Culture and Legacy Worth Living Up To
There is one thing that CMTD has to do to remain a force to be reckoned within the marketing industry: maintain the value of and appreciation for character-building hard work, doing what is right by the people it takes responsibility for guiding professionally, and never sacrificing the values it’s built upon for the easy dollar or the air conditioned office. Rarely is “what’s worth doing” easy. Rarely is “what’s NOT worth doing” hard. Therefore we challenge ourselves everyday to have the courage to do what is hard so that it can have the potential to be that which produces the most good for the highest number of people. There is no end to the challenge of a life lived ethically in service of the greatest good. The executives at CMTD are happy to part ways with the person looking for the easy solution to their own problems and anxious to leverage the entire company’s resources to support the person looking for the hard solutions to the company’s and the community’s problems. While some are looking to progress to an easier and less meaningful life of repetitive satisfactory outcomes, CMTD’s employees are looking to become the people able to progress to the hardest, most meaningful life of challenges available to create a consistent series of outcomes that are not obviously acheivable but that transcend marketing and achieve a state of excellence in practice. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, bring a community of like-minded individuals with a thirst for meaning and a skillset capable of changing the world.
Building a Brand: Communication as a Journey to Mastery
CMTD represents communication at the highest level of practice. Fundamentally, communication is the use of perception to generate meaning and the packaging and delivery of information for the purpose of sharing meaning with another person. At the highest level, communication is using your perceptions and memories as potential building blocks to craft compelling and motivating meaning that when strategically packaged in the appropriate vehicle and delivered using the most effective channel to maximize the chance of transmitting very specific meaning in someone’s mind, it is then likely to become the basis of strong feelings in that person of a particular nature, and those feelings are effective in motivating a desired behavior from that person to accomplish a goal which serves the purposes that you intend. The ability to communicate at this level is the basis of the most impactful and potentially paradigm-shifting movements in history. This level of communication is conveyed as a progression from simple to complex in the company’s name: from Communication, or transmitting meaning, to Marketing, or strategically transmitting meaning to influence specific outcomes, to Training, transmitting meaning to produce behavioral outcomes that converge to produce skills and abilities, and finally Development, or the cultivation of complete worldviews, character, and ways of thinking through the transmission of meaning which produces skills and abilities. As one is developed and develops themselves at the company, one progresses towards the most complex and overall, most influential form of communication possible. Because communication is the method by which learning is facilitated, it is then the only skill that you can master in the process of actively teaching the skill to others using the skill simultaneously. It is this quality of communication that the company leverages to facilitate extremely rapid progression in our employee’s level of mastery; to take those who are able to be humble and resilient as a student, to then become confident and patient as a teacher, then become fearless and compassionate as a leader, and then finally, to become inspiring and transformative as a mentor, a creator of leaders. If you can’t see your mentors increasing their level of mastery with your own eyes, how can you hope to have the appropriate example to model your own behavior to reach mastery in communication? You can’t.
Selling the Brand: Ambassador for the Value of Marketing
With great power comes great responsibility. For CMTD, this means that we have a very critical responsibility to teach the appropriate ethics to each member of our team in concert with our cultivation of their influential power. The company was founded out of an earnest desire for CMTD to stand apart from any other for-profit company augmenting the influential power of non-profit companies and the lack of commitment in our previous corporate partners to live up to that standard of excellence. The founders made great sacrifices and, in the past, even jeopardized their profitability in their respective companies, to achieve the goal of making employment and financial decisions on truly ethical principles. Through that commitment and sacrifice, they were able to find a way to guarantee success for the company while at the same time guarantee that the company did no harm to their employees or their clients respectively. It was fairly simple. Prevent themselves or any future company executive from ever profiting dramatically from the direct act of charity fundraising and invest more time and effort in cultivating value in the delivery of marketing in more passive and less direct ways. To ensure the company was insulated from the temptation to take substantial profit from the act of fundraising, the founders started and relinquished all professional fundraising duties, employee compensation resulting from fundraising, and distribution of generated funds resulting from fundraising to a federally registered, 501(c)(3), public charity designed to protect both 3rd party charities and fundraising professionals from predatory, fraud-enabling, financially irresponsible, worker’s rights-infringing, and/or illegal fundraising contracts and create, test and make publicly available designs for fair and ethical fundraising agreements with non-profits. The name of this charity is CMTD Services Inc.
CMTD Solutions LLC and CMTD Services Inc: A Logical Solutions to an Ethical Problem
The number one threat to the business of professional fundraising is the business of professional fundraising. While the founders’ of CMTD literally sacrificed their own pay regularly to ensure the fundraisers they managed were not taken advantage of and their clients were provided the most valuable arrangement that they could make given their circumstances, the biggest threat to their companies was one simple prospect, even if just an unsubstantiated fear in the back of the mind: What if they weren’t, or in the future decided not to be, honest and ethical people? What kind of damage could be done? What could we be actually contributing to? The founders themselves could never generate one convincingly definitive way to assure the fundraisers, clients, or general public that there was no way they would allow that to happen, even after revealing all of their revenue data and tax returns to anyone who would look. Easily faked. Probably BS. There was only one way that the company could be absolved of the fear that perpetuated anyone aware of the service they provided. Simply stop providing the service themselves. By facilitating the service through a federally regulated public charity, the public and fundraisers themselves can be assured of at a minimum: there would be great risk in attempting to profit beyond reasonable compensation for the act of fundraising, the government would have the ability to discover such profiting easily, and if there was ever an institution that would both be pressured to conform to ethical standards and likely to follow through on that promise, a charity that fundraises for other charities publicly would be the one. The initiatives of the charity go even further. To perpetuate fundraising arrangements like that of our clients and CMTD Services, the charity offers free contract oversight to any 501(c)(3) considering in engaging in professional fundraising contract to ensure they are protected from the most egregious possible outcomes of such a contract that undermine the viability of non-profit fundraising as a service. CMTD knows that if that were to happen en masse, the world would be deprived of so many amazing and life changing services that would never see daylight because of the challenge of fundraising for them or the lack of grants that enable their respective charity’s mission.

Meet Ty.
Ty has traveled a long way on his communication journey…
Ty grew up in south Texas and was a problem child in school. He couldn’t stop talking. He didn’t say anything particularly offensive, but he made more than a few problems for his elementary and middle school teachers. Eventually, Ty would say that he learned how to not get in trouble talking in class: talk about the subject the teacher wanted him to talk about and they were more than happy to allow him to chime in at will. This was the first sign of what was to come, and Ty’s first foray into professional communication.
As a college student, Ty went to Austin Community College to save money on his higher education and then transferred to Texas State University, where he was forced to take his first Communications Studies class as a pre-requisite to graduating with a degree in Philosophy. This was to be a life-defining class as, although he made a C in the class as a result of his poor study habits, he was forever drawn to pursuing a life-long journey of learning and mastery in the field of communication. It seems as though there were other people who thought like he did and knew how to influence the world in a strategic way, and those people were the ancient Greeks. Out of their insights grew an entire branch of social science dedicated to understanding and mastering the ability to craft messages and influence the world around us. Ty had found his people.
Fast forward to graduation day, Ty had changed his major, discovered the study of rhetorical methods, and become an honor role student on the Dean’s List for 4 semesters in a row before getting an A+ in his final class, Corporate Training and Development. This afforded him an offer from the Dean of the department to become a teaching assistant and get paid to earn his master’s degree in Communication Studies. Ty would go on to receive his M.A.in Communication Studies, a graduate degree in Corporate Training & Development and a graduate degree in Professional Ethics from the philosophy department of TSU. He continued teaching professionally for 5 years as an adjunct professor at TSU and Northwest Vista College in San Antonio before deciding that it was time to leave. He absolutely loved being a teacher and would stress the importance of communication in creating agency and mobility in life and advocated mastery in communication as THE solution to all problems solvable with human action. While Ty loved teaching, and most of all being a behavioral guide to those students who chose him as their preferred mentor through their college experience, administration was far from exciting to him at the time and thus the prospect of remaining a teacher indefinitely became financially untenable.
Ty reluctantly left higher education and accepted an inside sales job for a brief period before stepping into the role that would lead him to his current destination. He left his first corporate position knowing one thing: a business is only as good as the people running it. He admired the management team he worked under and was motivated to think about creating a culture that was the ideal one for him to thrive in. He soon after accepted an outside sales job that afforded him an opportunity to work his way into branch management, and eventually, an opportunity to own and run a marketing distribution office for a large corporate partner. He learned that his vast knowledge of communication theory played a large role in why his strategies to marketing his supplier’s clients and their various product, service and non-profit campaigns were either effective or not, and developed his own approach to understand marketing from a foundation of Greek communication and rhetorical theory.
His years of mastery in rhetorical methods led him to a new level of mastery in strategic communication, and ultimately as a trainer, leader, manager and business owner. Ty would use communication strategies to motivate and inspire his team to achieve unrivaled results for his corporate supply partners, earning rookie owner of the year his first year in business, and soon after promoted two of his branch’s managers to branch management themselves. After great deliberation and with the support of his management team, Ty decided to risk everything he’d built to free himself contractually and become completely independent to start a new business without any strings attached. He was now able to influence the world as the company saw fit through the missions of non-profit organizations his company could now freely choose to amplify to massive audiences.
Today, as the Founder and CEO of CMTD Solutions, Ty continues to mentor individuals at his company to grow and develop themselves professionally and personally in order to enable them to create comparable or greater change than himself in the ways they find most motivating and meaningful to their own journeys. Ty recently became the founder and president of the non-profit, 501(c)(3) public charity, CMTD Services Inc, which is designed to provide free consultation and contract oversight to 501(c)(3) charities in order to ensure fundraising arrangements they engage in are legal, ethical, equitable, and protect the organizations and fundraisers involved from abuse and malicious exemption from legal protections due to them under the Wages and Fair Labor Standards Act.
